Troop 30 has organized its Patrol structure to best serve the learning and
developmental needs of our Scouts. Following a more traditional model of
scouting we have re-established the age related levels of Boy Scout (11-14),
Senior Scout (14-18) and Rover Scout (18-and up). We hope to add a Cub Group
(8-11) in the near future.
The Troop has two Senior Scout Patrols each with an elected Patrol Leader
and Assistant. There is a Senior Patrol Leader who assists these Patrols in
organization and outings. The Senior Scout program is designed for the needs
and interests of Scouts age 14-18. Many Scout groups have experienced
difficulty in providing a program that is of interest to this age range and
at the same time able to include the Boy Scout age (11-14).
Our Senior program focuses on the "Trail to Eagle" and the interests, merit
badges (proficiency badges) that are required for B.S.A.’s highest rank.
Outdoor activities are more challenging with Mountain Biking, Canoeing and
Backpacking on the agenda.
Senior Scouts take on an active role in the Scout Group serving as Troop
Guides or Troop Instructors. Leadership skills are developed in the "Silver
Ax" program, a Council sponsored Junior Leadership Training (J.L.T.) program
and the application of the skills and commitments, which the participants
take home from this weeklong program. Most Senior Scouts are also active in
the Order of the Arrow(the Scout Honor Society) and participate in various
Lodge activities.
Our Senior Scouts also work towards the Silver Troop 30 Junior Leader Badge.
Worn on the Senior Scout maroon beret this award requires completion of all
Junior Leader training programs, rank advancement and demonstrated
leadership as well as Scout spirit.
