Troop 30 has organized its Patrol structure to best serve the learning and
developmental needs of our Scouts. Following a more traditional model of
scouting we have re-established the age related levels of Boy Scout (11-14),
Senior Scout (14-18) and Rover Scout (18-and up). We hope to add a Cub Group
(8-11) in the near future.
Our Boy Scout Group is divided into six patrols each that elects a patrol
leader and assistant. There are two New Scout Patrols without Patrol leaders
but under the direction of a Troop Guide (a Senior Scout), for the first 10-12
months in the Troop. An elected Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant direct the
Boy Scout Group. The Senior Patrol Leaders and Patrol Leaders make up the
Troop "Green Bar", a young leadership group that meets monthly to plan Troop
meetings and activities.
The focus of the Boy Scout Group is the development of Patrol Spirit and the
Patrol method. Basic Scout Craft and Wood Craft skills are emphasized on the
"Trail to First Class". Scouts are encouraged to work on special interests
Merit Badges ( Proficiency Badges) as well as on their Religious award
(appropriate to their family’s beliefs).
When a Scout in Troop 30 achieves the First Class rank he is presented with
the Traditional Troop Hiking Stave. Once a required part of the Scout uniform
the stave is an extremely useful tool in the hands of a trained Scout. It is
also the symbol of Scout Craft achievement.
Members of our Boy Scout Group are encouraged to attend the Troops Junior
Leader Training Program as well as a District level Junior Leader
